Japanese Empire
(an Age of Shoguns scenario)

This scenario spans the bloody period in Japan from 1430 to 1582. It was in this period that battles, large and small, raged throughout Japan as warlords fought for the title of Shogun. War tactics changed drastically following the introduction of gunpowder and firearms by the Portuguese in 1543. Will you be able to battle and scheme your way into control of a Japanese Empire? LENGTH: medium to long. PLAYERS: single or multi.

There are also 8 minor clans. Minor clans do not have an asterisk in front of their names, and are not meant for human players.

SCENARIO SETTINGS

-this historically-based scenario is played on a map that roughly represents ancient Japan.

-no accelerated production

-no plagues

-no cultural conversions

-barbarians: restless

-length: 500 turns over a 152 year period

-Victory conditions: there are four paths to victory...
1) Kill all the Shoguns of all your enemies (multiple regicide). Unlike a conquest victory, you can achieve this without destroying all enemy cities.
2) Dominate Japan by having 61% or more of the territory and population.
3) Amass 100,000 culture points.
4) If you fail to achieve any of the above, you can still win if you have the highest score at the end of the game. Score is largely determined by population size and power.
NOTE: this scenario does not use victory points.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

City growth, military power, and technical advancement are the most important factors in achieving a high score.

Japan is a crowded island. Be prepared for aggressive neighbors living right next door.

Diplomacy is extremely important when this game is played at Emperor level and above. Keep your enemies balanced in power and at each others throats. Avoid slaying enemy Shoguns and opening up vast territory that you are not prepared to populate or you may inadvertently double the size of an enemy.
